Welcome, Scott MacVicar!

Posted by on June 22, 2009

Scott MacVicar has contributed various extensions and improvements to the PHP core over the past few years. If something is wrong with fileinfo, JSON or SQLite3 it’s likely something he did. He is also the current President of the PHP London Usergroup and presents frequently at conferences on databases, caching and scaling. Scott has also been seen as a mentor for the Google Summer of Code program and has written numerous PHP articles. When not connected to the internet, Scott runs marathons and cooks!

Some things you may not have known about Scott:

  • The first online community he created was based on translating the Pokémon Silver / Gold ROM from Japanese to English back in 1999.
  • He has his degree in Computer Science from University of Paisley (UK)… and graduated top in his class!
  • He recently raised over £250.00 for the Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Center by running a half-marathon.
  • He spent seven years of his life hacking on the core of vBulletin
  • He will code for food.

Scott brings so much knowledge to CodeWorks – we are thrilled to have him with us. He will be speaking on a number of topics, mainly Alternative Databases, SQLite3, PECL and “Getting Involved with the PHP Project.” We encourage you to take a minute and say hello, if you don’t already know Scott.

Marco is the keeper of keys and Chief Garbage Collector at Blue Parabola. He can be found on Twitter as @mtabini.
