Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When is each issue of the magazine released?

Each magazine issue is released within the month that it is named for.  So the January issue will be released at some point in January.  We strive each month to deliver the magazine during the first half of the month; however, various things (such as holidays and conferences) can sometimes delay that.  But rest assured that worst case it will always come out by the last day of the month.

How long will it take for my print order to arrive?

This is sometimes a tough question to answer.  We work hard to bring you the best quality products that we can and at an affordable price.  Because of this we ship items in a cost effective way.  Unfortunately we aren’t Amazon Prime with free two-day shipping.  Also all of our print items (books and magazines) are printed on demand.  It can take 2-3 days for the item to be printed and shipped out.  From there how long it takes to be received really depends upon where in the world that you live.

If you live within the US, it should arrive within a week from being printed, but as you extend intentionally things slow down.  Shipping times get longer and customs gets involved.  Typically shipments to major urban areas of Europe will arrive in 2-3 weeks.  Shipments to other areas of the world can take much longer, up to 6-8 weeks before they arrive.  If your order has taken longer than this, please feel free to reach out to us for support at contact@phparch.com

How long will it take for other orders to arrive?

All of our other items such as t-shirts, coffee mugs, and elephpants are shipped in the most cost effective way for your location.  If you live within the US, your item should arrive within 2-4 days. International shipments typically take 1-3 weeks for delivery.  If you are International, please expect to be contacted by your local Customs Office.  You may need to pay fees before your item is released to you.

What issue will my magazine subscription begin on?

That depends on whether you ordered a digital or print subscription.  A digital subscription starts instantly with the current issue of the magazine that is available.  So if you bought your subscription at the end of January, you would immediately receive the January issue, and the next 11 issues as they are released.

If you purchased a print subscription, things are a little different.  Your first print issue will be the next issue released.  So again if you purchase in January, then it will start with the February issue and run for 12 issues.  But we don’t want you to miss out on being able to start reading immediately.  So for any new print subscription, we also immediately give you a digital copy of the current issue if you didn’t already own it.   This is our gift to you for signing up as a new print subscriber.

How do I change my subscription to print?

If you currently have a digital subscription to php[architect] magazine, upgrading that to print is easy.  Simply head to your Account page and click on the magazine tab.  On this tab you’ll be able to see your current subscription.  To the right of any active digital subscription is an ‘Upgrade’ link.  Just click that link and our system will automatically calculate the cost to upgrade the rest of your subscription to print, and add that into the shopping cart.

How can I buy a magazine subscription for my office?

We love it when people want to share their print issues of php[architect]!  We’ve actually created a discounted rate for corporations looking to buy multiple copies, you can see this on the magazine subscription page.  If on the other hand you were just wanting one copy, that’s OK as well, just go ahead and sign up for a single copy subscription and have it shipped to your office!

I run a PHP User Group can we get any discounts?

We all are heavily involved with User Groups here at php[architect] and like doing anything that we can to support them.  If you run a user group then please feel free to reach out to us at contact@phparch.com and we will talk about how php[architect] can best help your group out.

Are your products free of any DRM?

Yes completely!  Once you purchase any digital product from us (PDF/ePub/Mobi), it will be presented to you to download without any access restrictions at all.

When are you offering training in my area?

All of our standard training courses, as listed on our training page, are offered as online training classes only.  This means that you can take the course easily from the comfort of your home or office.  However if you are interested in having us send a trainer to your location, and can guarantee a set number of students, we are happy to discuss that!  Please send an email to training@phparch.com and we can iron out the details.

What are your customer support hours?

We are a family friendly company and encourage our employees to have a good work/life balance.  Therefore we may be slow to respond to any inquiries that come in over a weekend or around any US holiday.  So please do give us some patience if you have a question during those times.  However, we are all internet addicts, and so there’s a good chance that we’ll be checking our email and responding frequently anyway.

Your magazine is showing blank in your iOS app?

If you are experiencing a problem with having a magazine show up as a white screen, then it means for some reason the magazine did not download completely. This usually occurs when someone is using a slow internet connection (such as downloading over EVDO), and the download simply times out.

If the download fails in any way, unfortunately the app still ‘thinks’ that you downloaded it, but the file is corrupt. To solve this go to the ‘All Issues’ tab in the app and find the magazine in question ( It won’t have the Cloud Icon). Swipe left on the issue name and you will be shown a DELETE option. Choose this to purge the local cached copy of the magazine. After doing this, you will be able to touch the cloud icon again to re-download the magazine.
